My Umi says...

(this ain't her, but a pretty Sister nonetheless!)

I'm not sure if this is random or not, but like I was just sitting here thinking about My Umi (My Mother) and thinking about how VALUABLE she has been to me and my family! And despite our differences (you know the random minor ones that seem SO big but really are very small) she really is one of the dopest human beings that I know. And while she doesnt know EVERYTHING, she knows SO much! To the point where I call her to ask questions about pretty much EVERYTHING! You know? Its wild! I had to start calling her The GURU cuz she really has the answers that I need (for the most part)...

I remember reading somewhere that some cultures believe that Mothers are the closest thing to God for their children. And I'm really starting to think that might be true. All of the perfect and imperfect aspects of life seem to come through her and I'm always so amazed at her ability to be vulnerable, to be right, to be wrong and to take risks. And while she often thinks that she hasn't given us enough (or at least of the things that she finds important) I have to disagree because all of the knowledge-seeking and open-minded aspects of who I am were cultivated in the wing of her loving exposure to the Big World out there! And for that I am eternally grateful...

And its wild because my Sister started calling her Umi and it sorta kind of stuck so now we just be calling her "Umi"! Funny how life develops!

So like Mos said it, "My Umi says...shine your light on the worrrrlllllldddddd!" And Lord Willing Imma be able to do just that!
